How to Reduce Cellulite or Cottage Cheese Skin

Many women are concerned about the appearance of cellulite, particularly in the upper legs, waist, and stomach area. Cellulite, and its distinctive "cottage cheese" or "orange peel" skin appearance are a fact of life for many women and it's nothing to do with being overweight. While cellulite is unsightly, it is a result of the body's natural accumulation of adipose (fat) tissue underneath the skin. As these fat cells become interlaced with the skin, cellulite becomes visible.

Physically, cellulite occurs when fat cell chambers beneath the skin swell and are pinched by connective tissue bands. This results in a restriction of blood circulation through the small capillaries that supply fat cells. This reduction in oxygen supply to the fat cells causes the connective tissue bands to become tougher and les elastic. Ultimately this leads to waste and fluids being trapped between these fat cells.

Factors that Promote Cellulite

While it is difficult to pinpoint one reason , there are a number of factors that can contribute to increased incidences of cellulite. Some of these can be controlled while others cannot. The most common factors that determine cellulite occurrence include:

  • Hereditary, Intestinal Function and Circulatory Function
  • Hormonal Composition - Hormones like estrogen, insulin, the catecholamines adrenaline and noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin have all been shown to participate in the development of cellulite.
  • Lymphatic Function
  • Lifestyle - Smoking, lack of exercise, tight clothes, high heeled shoes, and sitting or standing in a single position of long periods have all been correlated with an increase in cellulite.
  • Diet - Fat, carbohydrates, salt, alcohol or too little fiber can all contribute to an increased cellulite
How to reduce cellulite

Although many women tend to get cellulite as they age, there are a number of things you can do to reduce the cellulite you already have and hopefully minimize occurrences in the future. The most important of these include:

  • Exercise regularly to increase circulation
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Restrict alcohol and nicotine intake
  • Use of anti-cellulite cream - Most anti cellulite products are aimed at toning the outer layer of skin to hide the cellulite and they are categorized as “cosmetics” and not medical treatments. This means that the promises these cellulite creams make on their packaging do not have scientific evidence to support their claims. However a product called Celluless from Syence™ Skin Labrotories can provide an additional and less expensive benefit by penetrating the skin and removing the fat cells trapped within the lower skin layer.
  • Try Mesotherapy - Mesotherapy which is actually a rather expensive medical therapy invented by a French physician Dr. Michel Pistor involves injecting a combination of drugs, vitamins and natural extracts into the middle area of the skin, directly affecting the fat pockets. The formula reduces the fat in the cellulite, improves circulation and breaks down damaged connective tissue. The fat is dissolved and flushed from the body.
  • A non-surgical treatment with VelaSmooth™ - It's rather new (But FDA approved) and painless technology that simultaneously harnesses the power of bi-polar radio frequency (RF) and optical energy in combination with a mechanical vacuum massage to break up the fatty tissue and improved circulation specifically where problem areas of cellulite occur. The treatment works for all skin types and its in 8-16 sessions over 6-8 weeks with a price of £80-£100 in UK and USD 150 in US per session.

Shopping for Right Skin Cleansers

Cleansers are formulated to dissolve make-up formulations, excess skin oils and impurities. The very best cleanser is the one that quickly and efficiently does so and rinses cleanly away. It must also leave enough skin lipids in place so that your skin is comfortably supple but not so many that your pores are clogged with them. It's a fine balancing act that can mean the difference between dry, spotty or fabulously clear skin.

Having no fragrance is very important. Fragrance is the number one cause of sensitivity. When buying a new (first time) product, always try each and every product on your neck overnight before application to your entire face or body areas.

Premature Wrinkles and Smoking

Dermatologists have found premature wrinkles on the faces of smokers as young as 20. What's more, they are twice as pronounced and twice as rough as lines on the faces of non-smokers the same age.

Smoking enhances an enzyme in the skin, matrix metalloproteinase-1, resulting in increased collagen (responsible for skin strength and elasticity, and its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany aging.) breakdown and diminished collagen production. The overall effect causes wrinkling and inelasticity

Here are the Facts:

  • Every cigarette starves the skin of oxygen and reduces its ability to generate collagen.
  • Skin absorbs smoke even from passive smoking.
  • Everyone is susceptible to nicotine damage, even non-smokers, albeit to a lesser extent.
  • Smoking and nicotine asphyxiates the skin, depriving the complexion of vital life enhancing oxygen and essential nutrients, leaving a sallow looking skin tinged with yellow nicotine.
  • Smoking is a potent source of free radicals, which dramatically speed up the ageing process.
  • Smoking saps Vitamin C from the body and attacks the Vitamin A, both being essential to healthy collagen production, reducing skin tone and leaving a limp lined complexion.

Tasty Skin Care Products

Since your body absorbs anything you place on your skin pores, shouldn't all your cosmetics and skin care products be edible? This is the thought behind "NOe Cosmetics", a new line of skincare products comprised entirely of organic, food-grade ingredients.

The average American uses between ten and 45 pounds of soaps, toiletries and cosmetics per year. That adds up to a lot of exposure to chemical additives.

As more consumers begin to question the wisdom of coating our bodies in that stuff, manufacturers are responding with alternatives. For example, parabens are preservatives used in shampoo and cosmetics. They have long been suspected of permeating the skin and entering the bloodstream, potentially contributing to serious illness. So a growing number of concerned shoppers are looking for alternatives like natural hair or skin care products that don't contain questionable ingredients.

Noe Cosmetics scientific team spent about two years sourcing organic active ingredients
- all of which, the company says, are USDA-certified organic.

Get Rid of Wrinkles with Snake Venom

Once upon a time there was Botox and now the new buzz is Snake Venom skin care. Celebrities like Drew Barrimore and Gwyneth Paltrow are the frequent customers of Sonya Dakar Spa in Beverly Hills for these skin care products.

We all want to get rid of wrinkles on our face, specially in area where we smile or make expression, but does it really works and can we affort such fancy treatment at home? or is it on demand because the name is so exotic?

In a discovery that has challenged conventional thought on the wrinkling process itself, a mirror or copy ingredient to actual Snake Venom is being applied by women to their face to get rid of fine lines, wrinkles and crow's feet. Skin Venom™ from Syence Skin Care uses such ingredient and it may well be the breakthrough anti-wrinkle ingredient of the decade.

Scientific analysis of the product's effectiveness has confirmed that by changing the skin's memory ( the skins inclination to always wrinkle in the same place each frown, smile or facial contraction.) Wrinkles can be delayed and reduced as the skin it forced to frown or contract with different muscles, Effectively forcing the skin to start the wrinkling process all over again, while alleviating any further deepening of existing wrinkles.

Skin Memory!!?

Dr Rowan Campbell,Ph.D, MD states it clearly "Your face holds a lot of tension in your forehead and your temples, even your smile, which over time draw lines through the rest of the face. Over time the features of the face can 'set' in a certain way. Your face makes a particular response to something at some point - you crease your brow when you are worried. The face then remembers this response and repeats it whenever you experience that emotion. Your skin has memory. Gradually your features begin to fix themselves permanently. Wrinkles form and deepen."
